Medical-legal partnerships (MLPs) bring legal services into health care settings to address patients’ unmet legal needs. This pilot project examined whether MLP services impact patients’ perceptions of stress and wellbeing.

In a pilot study to investigate the effectiveness of medical-legal partnership in pediatrics in northern California, a 36-month prospective cohort study of the impact of legal services was conducted. The results showed that two-thirds of respondents reported improved child health and well-being due to increased awareness and use of free legal services and increased access to food and income supports.
